Brody Akenberger is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. It was great to see Brody step up when we needed him. With one of our key starters sidelined, he didn’t hesitate to raise his energy level and gave everything for the team as they clinched a share of their third straight league title. Coach Adam Sloan said, "Brody has shown maturity and determination beyond his years. His transformation as a player and young man over the last year is admirable.” Congratulations, Brody!

Alex Daney is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Alex earned 1st Team All-League honors through her performance during the regular season NLL matches and at the NLL tournament. Last week she represented Springfield at Districts after advancing out of Sectionals. Coach Lisa Holden said, "Alex attends Toledo School for the Arts and continues to excel in her studies. She is committed to golf, participated in summer practices, as well as played in the Toledo Junior Golf District over the summer. Alex is the team's co-captain and an example to her peers for showing good sportsmanship, respect, and kindness to everyone.” Congratulations, Alex!

Harper Giwa is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Harper gave 100% vs Southview at home, and time and time again stopped the opponent's advancements. Coach Jayson Taylor said, "Over the past three years Harper has really worked hard to improve her craft and become the fast and dominant player she is today." Congratulations, Harper!

Mardel McCarver is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Mardel was a disruptive force on our defensive line in the football team's Week 6 win at Bowling Green, with 6 tackles, including a QB sack in a critical situation. Coach Sam Arredondo said, "Mardel joined us this year and has not looked back since. He worked hard all summer to prepare for the season and continues to buy in to our culture. His determination allows him to learn and move on from mistakes to remain focused on getting better.” Congratulations, Mardel!

Anna Mack is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Watching Anna lead her team at the first home game was a show of a true leader. She made the team come together through the fun times and solemn moments. Anna kept everyone together, positive, and motivated. Cheer always has a lot of responsibilities for a Friday Night home game and Anna stepped up as a leader to guide her team. Coach Megan Cantu said, "Anna has always been Springfield Strong. She is great asset to our community and is a great example of a student athlete. She is a strong athlete, kind friend, and an amazing Blue Devil.” Congratulations, Anna!

Alex Russell is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Alex anchors the team's defensive unit which held opponents to just three goals over the span of six games. Coach Adam Sloan said, "Alex brings a level of grit and determination that is contagious. Sarah Atherton is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Over the course of just two games, Sarah has made a huge impact on the court, recording an impressive 24 kills and 20 digs. She showcased her all-around ability during the recent matchup against Napoleon by earning a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Her consistent offensive power combined with her defensive hustle was a key factor in the team’s improvement last week. Coach Andrew Haughawout said, "Sarah is beginning to develop her skills as a leader on the court, setting the tone with her energy, competitiveness, and example for her teammates." Johnathan Iman is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Johnathan finished in 9th place out of 200 runners at the Liberty Center Cross Country Extravaganza. He set a new personal career best with a time of 17:04. Coach Mike Shull said, "Johnathan is a tireless worker and competitor. He is an excellent teammate displaying a positive attitude despite having ongoing weekly ankle issues. He shows up every practice, competes every week, rises in the rankings, and because of that, continues to post faster times each week." Congratulations, Johnathan!
