The Springfield Local Schools' Early Childhood Center offers a preschool program for children, ages three through five years old, residing within the school district. Children in the preschool have the opportunity to follow a daily school routine, eat breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, and follow their teacher’s directions. The children also can play outside on the exciting playground in the back of Dorr Elementary School, where the Early Childhood Center is located.
Early Childhood Center teachers create individualized play based learning experiences for children with guidance from the comprehensive preschool curriculum, “DIG: Develop, Inspire, Grow” and the Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards. Learning centers create opportunities for exploration across all domains of development and academic areas. Individualized small and large group learning experiences in literacy and math also help preschool students to prepare for kindergarten. The “DIG” curriculum also utilizes “The Letter People” and music by Dr. Jean, to create meaningful language and literacy experiences for the youngest learners in the Springfield Local School district
