Title One Services:
Springfield Local Schools continues to provide Title I services this school year.  This program which is sponsored through grant funds made available by the Federal Government is designed to provide support for our students.  Across the district, Title I funds enable us to support our students through  a prevention and intervention coordinator which is available for all students in grades K-12.  This individual is available to meet with students and families throughout the year to provide services based on referrals from school administrators and counselors in the buildings. Specific to the high school, Title I funds allow us to utilize The Buddy Room program, an alternative to suspension program, which  is housed at SHS for students in grades 9-12.  Students are given the opportunity to complete missed school assignments while focusing on positive alternatives to negative behaviors.  In the middle school, we have two Title I staff members who provide interventions to students needing support with reading and math.  At the elementary level, each of our elementary buildings has at least 1 Title I staff member to provide support to students in kindergarten and first grade. Please feel free to contact the specific school attended by your student  if you have questions regarding Title I services.

The Springfield Local School District is seeking input from parents on the use of Title I and Special Education Services provided via the use of federal funds. Please contact Paulette Baz, director of federal programs, if you are interested in providing input.

Child Find
Federal and State laws require school districts to evaluate children who have suspected disabilities. These laws affect all school-aged children educated within the Springfield school district boundary and all preschool children who live within the Springfield school district. Springfield Local School District is looking for children not currently being served by the district for delays or difficulties in:
·  Speech and language
·  Motor skills
·  Socio-emotional behavior
·  Cognitive development
·  Adaptive/self-help skills

If you have concerns about your child’s ability or skills, and suspect there may be a disability, please contact your child’s teacher, principal, or in the case of a preschool child, the Springfield Office of Federal Programs. For more information, please contact Paulette Baz.
